This feast is usually celebrated after people have fasted for one month. It is normally celebrated by the Muslims during the month of Ramadan. It also marks the start of a celebration that goes on for one month. Student friends visit each other and offer guests some Malay cakes and cookies.
Deepavali/Diwali
This is also known as the celebration of the lights or light festival. It is celebrated by Hindus as they mark the act of good defeating evil. It is normally experienced by the lighting up of fire crackers to mark the climax of the celebration.

They are all observed. These festivals are done to ensure that students feel right at home and not as if their cultures are not represented.
The Malaysian culture is very well represented and these festivals just show how much they are important even abroad. This also makes it easy for the Malaysian people and students living in the United States not to worry so much about traveling back to their country to attend these celebrations because you have a home away from home. It is important to encourage other people that want to study in the US but are worried about missing the celebrations. They should be advised that all major celebrations are taken into consideration and that none will be left behind.
