Financial aid for International students in the US
Education in the United States does not come cheap. Anybody from a different country that goes to study in the US either comes from a well off family or has received scholarship. That is the unfortunate bitter truth that we live by. Education has become costly in each and every aspect; this therefore requires a person to be extra vigilant if they want to make it through. The reason why I am saying that education in the united states is expensive is that tuition, room and board at an institution that offers undergraduate degrees costs from fifteen thousand dollars to forty thousand dollars a year. This depends on the school that you want to join. Graduate education is much more expensive.
The current situation is that, there is little financial aid for international students in the US. There is only a possible exception for people from Mexico and Canada. The people who fall out of this category do not stand a high chance of getting anything. Most scholarships, grants and loans from private and public sources are only restricted to the citizens of the United States only.
As a result of this, there is very little information concerning financial aid for international students. However, all hope is not lost; there are still some ways of getting foreign aid for international students in the US which I am going to discuss. Since it has been found out that most loans are offered only to the US citizens, there has been a huge problem of getting financial aid for international students in the US. However, it is important for students to know that they can look for the information about financial aid eligibility requirements. If you are creative enough, it is possible to find financial aid, loans and grants offered in your country that will help you to study abroad.
Another option is to look for financial aid from international companies. There are many financial companies that are willing to offer hardworking students the chance to make their lives better by paying for their university education. Some of the international organizations that largely help students inthe payment of school fees are the United Nations and World Council of Churches. Getting to these organizations is simply a matter of logging into the internet and applying for the financial aid, stating reasons why you want the aid. However, this is usually a tough measure because there are many people who are also looking for the chance to receive grants all over the world.
The other option is to seek aid from the university that you are attending. There some universities that are usually kind enough to offer foreign students scholarships to complete their education. However, they have terms and conditions that will apply. In most cases they look at a student’s performance in extra curricular activities like sports. If you have an outstanding performance history in any sport they will be able to give you a full or partial scholarship as long as you keep on playing for them. Though many debates are going on as to whether or not to offer partial scholarships to international students, it should be kept in mind that they should consider all people who are not financially stable whether a citizen or not.
